ABOUT AMERICA’S GOLF COACH FOUNDER TIM JOHNSON
I’ve been a member of the PGA of America since 2004. I started my PGA apprenticeship in 1996 in Palm Springs. I moved back to the South Bay where I grew up to run the Nike Golf Learning Center at Dominguez Hills driving range. I’ve been serving Long Beach as the head teaching pro since 2005. I was nominated for PGA teacher of the year Metropolitan Chapter in 2015. In 2016, I was nominated for PGA teacher of the year, Southern California PGA Section. My teaching and coaching competition was nominated twice for the Bill Strausbaugh award. I was just nominated for the Horton Smith award for my charity work from the PGA. I’m still yet to win an award, but I’ll keep working hard!
I was the winner of the Pro Junior Championship within the Southern California PGA in 2010. After having two beautiful girls, I don’t get to play as much golf as I’d like. I work with some of the Los Alamitos girls golf team. In 2018, the team went undefeated the entire season. 2019, I’m building to girls golf teams at Jordan High School in North Long Beach. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some great athletes. Many of my juniors have moved on and continued to play NCAA collegiate golf. I taught Demi Runas at Dominguez Hills. Demi is a great competitor and is currently playing on the LPGA Tour. I specialize in getting people hooked on this great game of golf! My first book American Golf Coach is due out by the summer of 2019.
